Kondagaon, Bastar • Dhokra Bell Metal CastingsDokra Lost-Wax Cast Nataraja Idol (12-Inch Antique Bronze)
ढोकरा ढलाई नटराज कांस्य मूर्ति (12 इंच)
Primitive tribal bell-metal sculpture cast through the 4000-year-old lost-wax process by tribal Dhokra metalsmiths of Bastar.
The Story Behind the Piece
A singular tribute to Lord Shiva's cosmic dance of creation and dissolution. Unlike mass-manufactured molded idols, this Dhokra piece is modeled completely from thin coils of natural beeswax over a clay core, encased in river mud, and baked. The wax melts away (lost-wax) and molten bell metal is poured in. When the clay mold is cracked open, this unique sculpture emerges into the light. No two pieces are ever identical.
Key Highlights:
- 4000-year-old Harappan lost-wax casting technique
- One-of-a-kind collector's sculpture
- Non-magnetic, heavy bell metal alloy
- Deep antique rustic bronze patina
